May 12: Where is my brain?

SIDE EFFECTS FOR THIS DAY: headaches (pain rating 3); left groin pain (pain rating 6); lower back pain (4); side pain (5); fleeting, needle-like pain in shins; exhaustion; lack of focus; hot flashes/night sweats; problems with sleep.

I am very forgetful today. For two hours, I could not think of my nephew's name. Today was early-ish day in any case and I am generally fuzzy/tired on those days, but this was worse. And I am having a hard time finding a position to sleep in comfortably again.

Wednesday would be my third shot. But I am not going down that road any more. Now I'll be writing about cycling off, which i hope won't be quite so bad.

I've been on the 3 month Lupron Depot shot since March 14th of this year! I had headaches the first month - which worsened if I lay down. This month it is phenomenally tired. Each month I go through a week or two where I am a complete space cadet.

Though - all in all, some random hot flashes and headaches aside, this is so much better than the several months of nightmare cycles before it. I have Adenomyosis - basically endometriosis that has invaded the uterine muscle wall. My next step is hysterectomy - most likely this fall.

I wish you the best. I'm glad I stumbled across your blog - it's nice to know I wasn't just losing my brain cells incident to age! :0)

Julia, how quickly did your adenomyosis symtoms subside? You and I are on roughly the same schedule. They suspect that I might have adenomysosis in addition to the endo, but none of my symptoms went away. Thanks for posting! It helps me to know I'm not going crazy either. :-)

I'm sorry you've had such a difficult time on the Lupron. I just had my fourth shot last week. I, too, experienced bad headaches, hot flashes and really disruptive sleep because of the hot flashes. But I do believe all of the side effects have gotten better and my body has gotten used to things. To me, it happened shortly after the third shot.

I had surgery right before New Years to remove a large cyst from my left ovary. My ovary had collapsed and I had "a frozen pelvis" because the cyst/ovary was attached to my intestines. The surgery required them to remove part of my ovary. The endo was so bad that they couldn't get it all, so I was told to do the Lupron. I chickened out at first because I'd read so many bad things, but then I decided I had to try and I had to be committed to sticking it out.

Before my surgery, when my symptoms were at their worst and I was dealing with the cyst, I'd lost about 15 pounds (I weighed about 98 pounds). I slowly have gotten better and I credit much of it to the Lupron. But I wasn't certain until about month three on the shot.

I, too, have felt very forgetful and a bit "out of it," but my overall health improvements were worth it and by feeling better, everything else seemed better and I felt more with it.

My doc told me when I started that I would need to stick it out. I'm glad I have. I wish you health and doing what's right for you. My only "two cents" would be that if you feel like you've felt any improvement, stick with it a little longer. You may be at the "breaking point" and things may start to improve.
